This little train...

...makes me remember how much I love being a mommy to a little boy.
Whenever I am sewing or scrapbooking, LBB must have this train to play with. And roll. And throw onto the floor in an ever-continous game of "Mommy-pick-up."
And I adore it. :)

Friday Nights

When I was in high school, Friday nights consisted of hanging out with my friends and flirting with boys (hey, I'm just being honest.)

In the early days of our marriage, Dear Sweet Hubby and I spent Friday nights out shopping and whatnot (and unfortunately, are still paying the price. Dumb credit cards.)

And now, as a mom and married gal, Friday nights have taken a decidely different turn.

Last night, Dear Sweet Hubby, LBB, and I went for a nice, relaxing evening walk. And I came back to....

Orzo pasta. All. Over. The. Living Room.

Yes, that's right. Apparently, Cat #2 decided that she would pull the garbage bag OUT of the cupboard, get stuck in the handle, freak out, and tear around the living room, dispelling it's dinnery contents everywhere.

I mean everywhere. Under the heater (we have radiant heat). ON the wall (yes, you read that right). Under the sofa, and somehow, under LBB's playthings. I moved the sofa to find our dimwitted Cat #2 hiding with the torn up bag stuck around her neck. (See, I used "dimwitted" in the most realistic sense.)

And the fun didn't end after I moved all the furniture and vacuumed the floor very thoroughly (thank goodness it wasn't a saucy meal.) After I got everything put where it was meant to be sans Orzo pasta, I went and found cat #2 and began to pick the Orzo that was stuck in her fur out. And...12 hours later, I am STILL finding pieces of Orzo in her thick fur.

Sigh. All I can do is chuckle.

Remember how I said we're changing things up?

One of the other little things we are changing is switching over from disposable diapers as our main source of baby waste management :) to cloth diapers. We plan on using disposables when we are out and about because, well, it's easier. But, since we are home more than out, this is going to be a fairly substantial change (and will be reflected in our budget as well, which is always a nice little perk!)

But, seeing as how I am...well, cheap...I coudn't bring myself to spend the money on storebought cloth all in one diapers. Yikes! They range in price from $15 to $20 PER DIAPER!!!!! I thought that was borderline highway robbery. So.

I pulled out my sewing machine. And I'm making his all in one cloth diapers. I designed them to grow with LBB.

I'm about this close to having all the little quirks out. It's been a learning experience, there is some stuff out on the web about it, but it is really more a task of figuring out what works best for my LBB. And, like I said, we are really close. The first diaper I made without PUL (a special waterproof fabric) leaked right away, big time. And it didn't fit 100% right for LBB. The second one I made with a removable soaker pad, and it worked a lot better because I used the PUL fabric and fitted it better. But, it still leaked on the edges. And the last one I made using a sewn in soaker pad did much much much better...but still a slight leak on some of the edges. I think this next one I make I will add a layer of PUL and use some PUL scraps to create a binding on the inner layer edges. I really think that will take care of the problem!

Whew. That is a lot of cloth diaper rambling. But, I just had to share...I'm loving making these for him, and LBB looks uber adorable with his little cloth diaper butt!!! :) Not to mention, he loves having them on!

LBB here...

...and my mommy is letting me write to say that my goldfish Allis is lonely.

So, we are going to get her a new friend. Another fishie just like her. We already have some names in mind...and I think I know which one I am going to choose, but we aren't going to share until we know for sure.

She seems a little sad right now because she is all by herself.

I'm excited to get Allis a friend. I really like to watch her swim, and I think it will be even better to watch two fishies swim.

Homemade Baby Food...take 1

Dear Sweet Hubby and I have been making a few changes household wise with LBB...

One of them is slowly switching over to homemade baby food. Now, not to say we won't use the occasionaly store bought when we are out and about...but forthe most part, we want to be making homemade. So, yesterday, I made my first batch of homemade food for LBB.

We started out with carrots...because, well, LBB adores carrots. I'm not talking a lukewarm love for them...no sirree...this boy appreciates everything carrots have to offer. Sweet taste, bright color, and incredibly fun to blow raspberries with. :)

LBB watched as I made the homemade carrots, something he got a kick out of. I pureed them, put them in his food containers that I had washed from the store, and froze all but one. So...a bag of baby carrots (about $1) yielded...wait for it...EIGHT jars of baby food! Man, think of the money I'll save! And way better for him as well!!!!! (Especially once the carrots in our garden grow...we'll really be in business then.)

Last night, the first jar of carrots was his dinner, and I am very pleased to say, he ate them up. Did the baby bird open mouth pose and everything. :) The boy loved carrots before, but now, it's a darn near obsession! LOL!

Today we made apples...that is what is for dinner tonight. We'll see how it goes. There are so many recipes out there for babies that I am excited to try. I figure a recipe a day and our freezer will be well stocked in no time!

Let me get a little off topic for a moment....

I don't do a lot of giveaway sweepstakes, but my friend Julia entered this, and I've been LOVING this stores dresses for a really long time that I had to enter as well. :) THey are doing a giveaway and here is the link...

We eat. We play. We laugh. We live.

Allow this to be my late Mother's Day post. :) Or perhaps my early birthday post.

Since the day we brought LBB home from the hospital (and what a joyous day it was!), life has never been the same. And, since I recently hit my "stride" as a mommy and Dear Sweet Hubby has hit his "stride" as a daddy, life is one exciting, joyful, memorable moment after another.

I'm sure you know what I mean by "stride"...when you have those days more often than not that you know you love that little baby so much, but "Why in the world did God trust me with this? How do I do this!?!?!" Those days when you try so hard but still have nothing done at the end of the day...and then...all of a sudden....

Life. Is. Easier.

You feel 10,000 times more confident in your parenting abilities. You actually get things done during the day. And you realize: "I can do this. And I can do this well!" That, my bloggy friends, is what I mean by hitting my "stride."So, since Dear Sweet Hubby and I have hit our stride, we are enjoying our moments with LBB even more...which, honestly, I didn't think was possible.

LBB and I spend our days blissfully (that is truly the best way to describe it.) Sure, there are rough days when he has three incredibly dirty diapers or he is a fussbucket for 2 hours at night because he just doesn't want to go to sleep. But even those moments make up the whole experience. And the whole experience is good!

I think back to what I would be doing a year ago. I was dreaming about what our days would be like. Worrying about how good a mom I would be. And anticipating the day I could hold LBB in my arms. And, now, thankfully, I get to cherish every moment of the day with him (even those 2 am cuddles). I know I am a good mom and have learned to stop doubting myself. And, I get to hold LBB in my arms and cuddle regularly! What could be better than that?

The answer, friends, is nothing. Nothing compares to holding your child in your arms and know that they have taken your heart and you'll never get it back or want it back. Nothng compares to sitting at the dining table as you feed your little one and chatter back in forth as carrots fly all over the place. And nothing...absolutely nothing...can compare to the joy I feel when LBB smiles at me and the serenity I feel when he falls asleep in my arms. :)
